Play Dough Volcano Eruption Experiment

This experiment is about chemical reactions that take place between baking soda and vinegar and checking what makes the reaction happen quickly.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Place the plastic in the centre of a cardboard base.

Use play dough or clay to build your desired volcano mountain shape around the bottle, make sure to leave the bottle opening uncovered.

Add food coloring to the warm water in the bottle.

Then add the drops of dishsoap.

After that, add the 3 tablespoons of baking soda to the mixture in the bottle.

When you are ready add the vinegar to the mixture and watch your volcano erupts!

Materials Needed

1/2 Cup of vinegar
A plastic bottle (preferably small to medium)
2 drops of dish soap
3 tbsp of baking soda
Food colouring (for a lava effect, optional)
150ml of warm water
A tray (to catch the eruption)
Play dough or modelling clay

⚠️ Safety Notes

Have parents supervision when using warm water.
While vinegar isn't harmful, avoid getting it in the eyes.
Do it outside to avoid mess inside.
Clean up immediately after.
